Really interesting dreams. Good to know someone is having dreams as disturbing as my own… As I see your dreams as full of metaphores I can’t help but comment that the pregnant woman showing you how to get used to the knife for ‘killing yourself’, might be related to the kind of ‘killing one’s old self’ that happens when one gets a baby…

Not sure if you’re posting your dreams to get an opinion, if you think dreams have a meaning at all or if you’d appreciate my personal interpretation of your dreams but I will give it a try: It strikes me that ‘no clothes on’ or ‘without make-up’ seems to be a recurring theme… Perhaps you worry about keeping up the public image you have built for yourself and are afraid to let your guard down and be your ‘relaxed self’…

You’re a brave soul, Karen. I won’t even put my poetry on the web–and that’s not nearly as directly revealing of my psyche. Though almost.

This one: The basis is your college reunion reminding you of past failures intersecting with your current professional ambitions and anxieties, especially in individual performance, without partners. You’re at a reunion that’s also a conference. It’s your turn to perform in front of the crowd. You’ve done it before and failed. Someone else tries and fails, and you identify with her. You have tools at hand that you can use–you see them right in front of you–but they’re made of cardboard, and they’re light blue (not a “serious” color). Are they really going to hold your weight?

I’m pretty certain of it.

And I was just trying to see if you’d blogged about your workshop. Thanks a whole bunch, Jung.

I love this blog, keep it up! The written word will never capture the visual dream, but it becomes something else quite valuable.

This post relates to something I’ve always wondered about: how are the visuals stored and produced by the brain? (warning: computer science). There just isn’t enough storage in the mind to store full motion video of all our memories, but is anything visual stored?

Do we actually see our childhood house, or just think we’re seeing it, like a verbal description of the visual. “the old yellow telephone on the green wall” Perhaps we then recreate the scene when we remember the dream each individual item. But is there ever an actual scene to “look at” or just sort of meta data descriptions? Do you see rich details of the things you see in your dreams?
As an example, In the film “waking life” they mention not being able to read what time it is on clocks.

So is the dream actually more visual than your verbal description?

Isn’t it quite strange to cast dreams as communication? Who is communicating with whom? If we’re telling ourselves something don’t we already know it and have no reason to tell it to ourselves?
